Cylinders involved in vehicle blaze which caused major road closure during rush hour

Information on what closed the A34 in both directions yesterday

Crews from Whitchurch and Andover were called to a van fire on the A34 southbound carriageway near Bullington Cross shortly before 15:30 yesterday afternoon.

Police colleagues were on the scene to implement a full road closure due to the smoke drifting across the carriageway.

Specialist water carrier vehicles from Eastleigh and Fleet were also in attendance.

The crews worked to extinguish the van, which was carrying acetylene cylinders, using jets to stop the fire and cool the cylinders.

HIWFRS left the scene at 17:52.
