Firefighters were called at 4.51 pm Sunday (29 August) to reports of a fire which had broken out at Southsea Laundry Company Albert Road, Southsea
Crews from Southsea, Cosham and Portchester tackled the blaze on the ground floor which quickly took hold of the premises.
Around 20 firefighters used high-pressure jets, hose reel jets, breathing apparatus and a ventilation fan to clear the smoke.
The fire was extinguished by 6.25 pm and made safe by firefighters.
Nearby residents were shocked as smoke swept along Albert Road.
One nearby resident spoke about the fire.
I was really worried.
I could smell burning and had to close my windows.
It was just a few years ago the previous company at the same premises had a fire which destroyed the building.
It’s just lucky no one has been hurt.
A fire investigation is now underway to find the cause of the fire.
