Firefighters from Basingstoke and Rushmoor were called to the scene of a vehicle fire on the M3 southbound carriageway between junctions 5 and 6.
HIWFRS received 11 calls reporting this incident shortly after 3pm.
Firefighters arrived to find one car on the hard shoulder and well-alight. They tackled the blaze using hose reels and wore breathing apparatus sets.
The car involved was initially on a vehicle transporter but had been quickly removed. The transporter was unaffected by the fire.
Further fire engines from Basingstoke and Andover were stood down before they arrived.
The stop message was received at 3.52pm
