A woman has been convicted of common assault and causing criminal damage after appearing at Southampton Magistrates Court yesterday (21 March)

Robyn Ray, aged 47, of no fixed abode was sentenced to six months in prison after pleading guilty to aggravated assault, criminal damage and a number of assaults on emergency service workers.

It comes after a man reported to police that Ray had kicked over his moped and then approached him in a perceived unprovoked attack just after 7pm on Friday 18 March between Cobden Road and Manor Farm Road.

The court then heard how the man was subject to a tirade of racially abuse before being assaulted by the woman.

Upon police arrival, Ray was located in the vicinity and arrested for criminal damage and assault offences. During her arrest, she assaulted three officers by kicking them before being placed into a police van and transported to Southampton Central police station.

Robyn Ray was later charged and remanded for one count of assault, one count of criminal damage and three counts of assaulting an emergency worker.

Appearing at Southampton Magistrates Court yesterday (21 March), Robyn Ray pleaded guilty to all of the offences and was sentenced to six months imprisonment.

A spokesman from Hampshire Constabulary’s Western Investigation Team, said “The Courts have recognised the threat that this woman poses to the local community, as well as police officers as they work to protect the same community, which has led to her receiving a significant sentence.

“Hampshire Constabulary will always work to pursue and prosecute those who target specific people for abuse and /or assault in order to protect the communities that they serve.”
