Questions raised after large food market appears at B&Q car park in Fratton Way
A large gathering was reported at the B&Q car park on Fratton Way, Portsmouth, after what appeared to be an unofficial food market was set up.
Witnesses claimed a number of stalls or vehicles were selling fruit, vegetables and other food items, with hundreds of people said to have attended throughout the day.
It is understood the market may be held around every six weeks, although it is currently unclear whether the event has permission to operate from the landowner, Portsmouth City Council, or any relevant licensing authority.
At this stage, there is no confirmation that any rules have been breached. However, questions have been raised over whether the market requires consent, food hygiene checks, trading permission, or other approval due to the scale of attendance.
Hampshire Incidents is approaching Portsmouth City Council for comment and clarification on whether environmental health, licensing, or enforcement officers are aware of the event.
