Three Newport properties hit with closure orders over anti-social behaviour and suspected drug activity
Three properties in Newport have been served with partial closure orders following reports of persistent anti-social behaviour, excessive noise, and suspected drug-related activity.
The orders were secured by the West Wight Neighbourhood Policing Team at Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 20 May after officers presented evidence linked to addresses at Nippert Court and two properties on West Street.
Police said they had received numerous reports from residents regarding excessive noise, drug paraphernalia being left in communal areas, and people allegedly attending the addresses while under the influence of drink and drugs throughout the day and night.
The partial closure orders mean that, for the next three months, anyone not specifically authorised on the court order is prohibited from entering or remaining at the properties.
Anyone found breaching the order will be committing a criminal offence and could be arrested.
The orders were obtained following joint work between Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary’s neighbourhood policing teams and housing providers Southern Housing and Vectis Housing.
West Wight Neighbourhood Sergeant Chantal Miller said:
“We are committed to addressing drug-related harm, a West Wight Neighbourhood Team Priority, and the impact this has on neighbours and the wider community.
“This order gives us additional powers to tackle individuals behaving in an anti-social manner and to tackle criminal activity in and around these properties. I hope this order shows that we will do all we can to stop anti-social behaviour and the enormous impact it creates.”
Police are continuing to urge anyone affected by anti-social behaviour in the area to keep reporting incidents so officers can continue targeted patrols and proactive enforcement action.
Anyone with information can contact police on 101 or report incidents online via the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary website. In an emergency, or if a crime is in progress, always dial 999.
