Farnborough Shoplifter Jailed And Banned From Stores After Spitting At Staff
A prolific shoplifter has been jailed and handed a two-year Criminal Behaviour Order after targeting stores in Farnborough.
Bobby Robinson, 27, of Ratcliffe Road, Farnborough, attempted to steal meat worth £23.50 from the Co-op on Fernhill Road on 24 April, but was challenged by staff.
During the incident, Robinson verbally abused staff, tried to fight a member of the public who told him to leave, and spat at a female staff member in her 30s and a man in his 40s.
He also punched the man, causing a minor injury to his lip, before attempting to damage the man’s car wing mirror outside the shop.
Robinson then fled the area and later stole alcohol worth £11.50 from Tesco on Chapel Lane.
He was arrested following a police investigation and charged with two counts of theft from a shop, two counts of assault by beating and attempted criminal damage.
Robinson pleaded guilty to all offences and was jailed for 13 weeks at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 20 May.
He was also handed a two-year Criminal Behaviour Order, banning him from entering Tesco Express stores in Farnborough and the shop at the BP fuel station on Prospect Road.
The order also requires him to leave a business immediately if asked by staff, and to place items for purchase into a basket or trolley before presenting means to pay.
Police Sergeant Lee Bishop, from the Farnborough Neighbourhood Policing Team, said Robinson’s behaviour had caused a serious impact on local businesses, staff and the wider community.
Police are urging shop owners and staff to continue reporting shoplifting. Reports can be made by calling 101 or online via the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary website. If a crime is in progress, call 999.
