Man Who Travelled to Bali to Hunt Down Travel Influencer Given Indefinite Hospital Order
A man who subjected a travel influencer to a terrifying stalking campaign, including travelling to Bali in an attempt to find her, has been handed an indefinite hospital order.
Rob Keating, 40, of Old Crawley Road, Horsham, formerly of Havant, was found guilty of two counts of stalking involving fear of violence following a seven-day trial at Portsmouth Crown Court.
The court heard Keating first contacted the woman, who lives in Bali and works as a travel influencer, via Instagram in June 2022. Although the pair had never met, he sent her constant messages, forcing her to block him.
Despite this, Keating continued contacting her through her personal email address, which she had never shared with him. Over a six-month period, he sent hundreds of emails and around 30 videos, while using secret Instagram accounts to monitor her online activity.
In December 2022, the harassment escalated dramatically. Keating threatened to kidnap and rape the woman, sending videos of himself making the threats along with a disturbing image of a body in a suitcase.
He later travelled to Bali after sending the victim evidence of flight bookings and a visa. Once there, he sent photographs taken at places she regularly visited and locations close to her home. Friends of the woman eventually spotted Keating near her address, forcing her to flee to a friend’s home before leaving the country altogether, fearing for her life.
Keating was first arrested at Gatwick Airport on 6 March 2023. While still under investigation, he contacted the woman again and posted screenshots of flights to Bali on Instagram with the caption: “Round Two.”
He was arrested again on 11 November 2024, charged the following day, and was found guilty by a jury on 15 May 2025.
Appearing again at Portsmouth Crown Court on Monday (22 June), psychiatric assessments resulted in Keating being made subject to a Hospital Order under Section 37 of the Mental Health Act 1983, together with a Section 41 Restriction Order, meaning there is no time limit on the order. He has also been made subject to an indefinite restraining order.
Police have reiterated that stalking is always taken seriously and have urged anyone experiencing similar behaviour to report it.
