Police have found the body of a woman while searching for a missing 73-year-old.
The body was found in the Alver Valley area of Gosport today. A missing persons appeal was launched to find Marcia Mitchell from Lee-on-the-Solent after she initially disappeared on Sunday evening at 9.30pm (September 1).
She was last seen on CCTV in Headley Close yesterday morning (September 2).
The identity has yet to be verified, though Marcia’s family have been informed. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said: “Officers searching for missing 73-year-old Marcia Mitchell from Lee-on-the-Solent have sadly discovered the body of a woman in the Alver Valley area.
“Formal identification has not yet taken place, but Marcia’s family have been informed and are being supported by police. Officers will now prepare a file for the coroner.“We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who shared our appeals. Our thoughts are with her family.”
