A huge multi-agency recovery operation is underway this evening after today’s earlier fire which destroyed a delivery lorry on the A3.
The lorry that was carrying a number of beer kegs burst into flames causing both lanes of the A3 to be closed for several hours whilst firefighters battled to contain and extinguish the fire.
Police later returned to close lane 1, southbound on A3 junction with A325 to allow workers to start a full recovery operation.
Workers were seen unloading the lorries cargo with forklifts to allow for recovery of the lorries cab and trailer.
The lane closure will remain in place to allow the Highways Agency safe space to resurface the road, after the road sustained damage from burning debris of the trailer.
