🚨 73-YEAR-OLD MAN ARRESTED UNDER NEW SEXUAL HARASSMENT LAW 🚨

A 73-year-old man from Basingstoke has been arrested on suspicion of a sexual harassment offence following a report of inappropriate behaviour towards a female shop worker in The Malls.

Police say the man allegedly made sexualised comments to the woman while she was working in a store on 13 May, leaving her feeling distressed and nervous.

The arrest was made yesterday (16 June) under Section 4B of the Public Order Act 1986 – a new offence targeting sex-based harassment that came into force on 1 April 2026.

The suspect has been released on bail with strict conditions while enquiries continue.

Police are urging anyone who has experienced or witnessed similar behaviour in Basingstoke town centre to come forward.
