🚨 Police urge rural communities to report hare coursing in Hampshire
Police are asking people living and working in rural Hampshire to report hare coursing, suspicious vehicles, and suspicious individuals.
Although hare coursing usually peaks in autumn and winter, police say the season can begin earlier when harvests finish sooner and fields are left bare.
A hare coursing incident was reported on 11 June on farmland in northern rural Basingstoke, close to the Hampshire/Berkshire border. The offenders left behind two lurcher dogs, which were taken to kennels and will be rehomed.
Police teams, including the Country Watch Rural Crime Task Force, will be patrolling rural areas under Operation Galileo.
📞 Report information via 101
🚨 Dial 999 if a crime is in progress
🕵️ Crimestoppers: 0800 555 111
📱 Rural businesses can also use the EyesOn app
Police are reminding people: do not approach anyone involved in hare coursing or rural crime. Your safety comes first.
If safe, record details such as vehicle registrations, number of people, dogs involved, direction of travel, damage caused, and any video or photos.
