Firefighters tackled a blaze at a derelict hotel in Sandown on Tuesday evening.
Crews from Sandown, Shanklin, Ryde, Newport, Cowes, East Cowes and Freshwater were in attendance following a 999 call at 7.00pm.
Smoke could be seen coming from the building, in Broadway, and police colleagues quickly closed the road to allow access for emergency vehicles.
The fire involved the ground and first floors and firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used jets to put the fire out as well as ventilation fans to clear smoke.
Group Manager Jeff Walls said: “The fire was well alight when the first crews got here but they made quick progress and worked really hard to knock the fire back.”
No one was injured and the stop message was received at 9.35pm.
A joint fire and police investigation will take place to try and establish a cause.
The scene will be guarded overnight by police.
