Five Arrested in Connection with £500,000 Theft of Plant Machinery
Elsewhere in the investigation, officers seized clothing items and mobile phones.
Over the course of the day, five people — a 52-year-old man, a 40-year-old man, a 45-year-old woman, a 48-year-old man and a 47-year-old man — were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit burglary.
They all remain in police custody at this time.
The arrests form part of an ongoing investigation into the theft of plant machinery, RHIBs, generators and fuel across Southampton and surrounding areas.
Police estimate that around £500,000 worth of equipment has been stolen in more than 30 incidents between 5 February 2025 and 17 April this year.
Officers say plant machinery theft is a widespread issue affecting communities across Hampshire and the wider UK, with such equipment often difficult to trace but easy to transport.
Police are urging the public to continue reporting crimes and suspicious activity, particularly in rural areas and around building sites.
Any details — including descriptions of people or vehicles — could assist enquiries.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 or via the Hampshire Police website.
Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111. In an emergency, always dial 999.
