Man Jailed After Victim’s Jaw Broken In Basingstoke Assault

A 38-year-old man has been jailed after a violent incident in Basingstoke left a victim with a broken jaw.

Police were called on Thursday, April 16, following reports that a man in his 50s had been assaulted near Basingstoke train station.

The victim suffered a broken jaw and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Officers then received a second report that a man in his 40s had been assaulted on Alencon Link a short time later. He was not injured.

Police also received a report that food had been stolen from the Greggs store near the bus station.
Officers attended the scene and arrested Daniel Harris, 38, of no fixed abode.

Harris was later charged with wounding / inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent, assault by beating, and theft from a shop.

He pleaded guilty to all offences and was jailed for 46 weeks at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on Friday, May 8.

T/Detective Constable Mia Jones, from Basingstoke CID, said:

“This was a shocking incident which left the victim needing to be treated for a broken jaw in hospital.

“Daniel Harris’ actions that day were violent, reckless and extremely dangerous. I’m pleased that we were able to swiftly arrest him and ensure we had enough evidence to put this case before the courts.

“Harris will now spend time behind bars for what he did. I hope this result highlights we will do all we can to ensure that those who commit offences in our area will face the consequences of their actions.”
