Body Found At Stokes Bay Following Week-Long Search For Missing Man

Police searching for a missing man in Gosport have confirmed that a body has been found at Stokes Bay.

The discovery was made this evening, Friday 15 May, following an extensive search operation which began after concerns were raised for the welfare of a 40-year-old man shortly after 8.40pm on Friday 8 May.

Searches have involved Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary, HM Coastguard, the RNLI, HANTSAR, and Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue Service.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said: “Officers searching for a 40-year-old man who was reported missing to us shortly after 8:40pm on Friday 8 May have this evening discovered a body at Stokes Bay in Gosport.

“While formal identification has yet to take place, his family has been informed. A file will be prepared for the coroner.”

Police have not publicly named the man at this stage.
