Ten Vehicles Seized During Police Operation Targeting E-Bikes and Scooters in Leigh Park
Police have seized ten vehicles during an operation targeting anti-social behaviour and offending linked to e-bikes and electric scooters in the Leigh Park area.
Chief Inspector Matt Moss, District Commander for Havant, said officers from local Havant teams worked alongside colleagues from the Roads Policing Unit yesterday as part of ongoing efforts to tackle concerns raised by residents.
Police say anti-social behaviour and general offending involving e-bikes and scooters remains a real issue for the community, with regular operations being carried out to target those using them unlawfully.
During the operation, officers recorded the following results:
Ten vehicle seizures
Advice and education given to a driver regarding tinted windows
A suspect dealt with for possession of a Class A controlled drug
The arrest of a suspect wanted in connection with a domestic abuse matter
The arrest of a suspect following an incident involving a suspicious vehicle colliding with a Roads Policing Unit vehicle
In the latter incident, police said the vehicle collided with an RPU vehicle, although no damage or injuries were reported. The driver fled the scene on foot but was tackled moments later and arrested on suspicion of numerous offences.
Photos released by police show some of the vehicles seized during the operation.
Chief Inspector Moss issued a warning to those using illegal electric scooters and e-bikes, and to parents buying them for children.
He said electric scooters and bikes similar to those pictured are illegal to use on public roads unless they are properly registered, insured and MOT’d.
He added: “In particular to the parents out there who buy these items for your children — please stop.”
Police say they will continue to carry out operations in and around Leigh Park to target anti-social behaviour, illegal vehicle use and wider offending linked to e-bikes and scooters.
