Man Reportedly Raped On Portsmouth Street Near Astoria Nightclub As 21-Year-Old Arrested

A 21-year-old man has been arrested after police received a report that a man had been raped on a Portsmouth street in the early hours of this morning.

A police tent and cordon were set up on Winston Churchill Avenue, near the Astoria nightclub, following the reported incident at around 3.30am today, Saturday 13 June.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary confirmed officers were called after receiving a report at 3.39am that, a short time earlier, a man had been raped on Winston Churchill Avenue.

The victim is being supported by specialist officers while enquiries continue to establish the full circumstances.

A police spokesperson said: “We are investigating a report that was received at 3:39am today (Saturday 13 June) that a short time before a man had been raped on Winston Churchill Avenue, Portsmouth.

“The man is being supported by specialist officers.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances. A 21-year-old man from Winchester has subsequently been arrested on suspicion of rape.”

Police enquiries remain ongoing.
