Sprinklers Extinguish Kitchen Fire At Rotterdam Tower In Southampton

Sprinklers extinguished a small kitchen fire at Rotterdam Tower in Southampton yesterday afternoon.

Firefighters from St Mary’s and Hightown were called to the tower block at around 6.30pm following reports of a fire on the seventh floor.

Before crews arrived, a member of the public rescued one casualty from the flat. The building’s sprinkler system had activated and successfully extinguished the fire.

Additional crews from Redbridge, Eastleigh, Totton, Fareham and Botley were stood down while en route.

The casualty was treated for smoke inhalation and discharged at the scene.

Firefighters delivered fire safety advice to neighbouring properties before leaving shortly after 8pm.
