Man, 38, charged with multiple shoplifting offences across Southampton, Eastleigh and Chandlers Ford
A 38-year-old man has been charged with nine counts of shop theft following a series of incidents across Southampton, Eastleigh and Chandlers Ford in which more than £1,200 worth of goods were allegedly stolen.
The offences relate to reports made throughout April and May and include:
26 April: Tesco Express, Winchester Road, Chandlers Ford – almost £300 worth of meat and coffee stolen.
27 April: Tesco Express, Burgess Road, Southampton – more than £30 worth of fabric conditioner stolen.
28 April: Simply Fresh, Parkville Road, Southampton – approximately £140 worth of chocolate stolen.
3 May: Simply Fresh, Parkville Road, Southampton – around £40 worth of detergent and cleaning products stolen.
6 May: Tesco Express, Twyford Road, Eastleigh – more than £325 worth of meat and coffee stolen.
7 May: Sainsbury’s, Bridge Road, Southampton – more than £170 worth of meat stolen.
9 May: Sainsbury’s, Burgess Road, Southampton – more than £85 worth of meat stolen.
18 May: Sainsbury’s, Burgess Road, Southampton – around £30 worth of meat stolen.
19 May: Tesco Express, Witts Hill, Southampton – almost £80 worth of chocolate stolen.
Following an investigation, James Barry Daniel McMurray, 38, of no fixed abode, was arrested and has now been charged with all nine offences.
He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Southampton Magistrates’ Court today (3 July).
