Two Men Arrested After Police Uncover Large Cannabis Factory Near Basingstoke
Two men have been arrested after police discovered a large cannabis factory containing more than 1,000 plants near Basingstoke.
Officers executed a warrant at a property in Compton Way, Sherfield Park, at around 9am today, Thursday 9 July.
Inside the address, police found six grow rooms, each containing approximately 200 cannabis plants.
Two men were located inside the property and arrested at the scene.
A 53-year-old man and a 45-year-old man, both of no fixed abode, were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of a controlled drug of Class B and cultivating a cannabis plant.
They remain in custody while enquiries continue.
Officers have remained at the property throughout the day to carry out further enquiries and ensure the address is secured and made safe.
Police said large-scale cannabis grows are often linked to organised crime and hidden harm, including serious violence and dangerous electrical setups which can create a significant fire risk for neighbouring properties.
Members of the public are being encouraged to continue reporting suspicious behaviour or suspected drug dealing in their neighbourhoods.
