Two men have been arrested in connection with a drugs factory being discovered in Southampton.

On Sunday evening (23 January) officers stopped a car in Thomas Lewis Way based on intelligence received about possible drug production.

A 20-year-old man and a 33-year-old man, both from Poole were arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis.

A property in Arnold Road, Southampton, was then searched and about 400 cannabis plants were found.

The two men have since been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

PC Alex Griffey said: “Cannabis production on this scale is often linked to organised crime gangs, which is why we take it so seriously

“Gangs often take advantage of vulnerable people and bring violence into communities and onto your streets.

“Please call us if you think cannabis is being grown in your neighbourhood, as this helps us build a better intelligence picture to target drug gangs.

“If you’re a landlord, please make sure to regularly check your properties as dangerous alterations to electrics and the structure of a building are often made to grow cannabis.

“If you see anything suspicious, please report it to us immediately.”
