A 30-year-old man from Southampton has received a 12-month community order after being found guilty of assaulting a shop worker back in November last year.

It comes after officers received reports of a man assaulting a shop worker on Bournemouth Road in Chandler’s Ford in the early hours of Saturday 27 November 2021.

The court heard how Damien John Holland of Gordon Avenue in Southampton had thrown a bag of logs and wood at a staff member after they had asked him to leave the store due to him being drunk and disorderly.

Holland was later charged with common assault and possession of a Class B drug.

He appeared at Southampton Magistrates Court on Saturday 21 January and was subsequently given a 12-month community order, ordered to complete 10 Rehabilitation Activity Requirement days and fined £120.

Holland was also required to pay compensation of £150 to the victim, while also paying a £95 victim surcharge amount and £85 court costs.
