Armed police swarm house amid reports of male with a gun

Police were called to an address in Portsmouth following reports of a male who had been seen at his front door with a gun

Multiple armed units swarmed the house and placed a cordon who were seen with guns and ballistic sheilds to the property in New Road East at around 7.30pm Friday 2nd August, after a short time taking position at the property 4 people emerged from a nearby side street in which armed police screamed at 2 males with guns drawn to get on the floor.

Police then detained the 2 males one in his 40s and a younger male in his teens who were placed in cuffs and later taken to Portsmouth Investigation Centre for further questioning.

Armed police then carried out a search on the property after being given information from one of the detained males that there was a Co2 hand pistol in the property, this was made safe by firearms officers and the incident scaled down.

Information received from police said: “A report received stated that a male had been seen within a doorway of his property with a gun, not knowing if this gun was real or a toy we made the decision to place a cordon on the property whilst we carried out an operation to enter the house.”

“Whilst this was happening 2 males and 2 females emerged from a nearby street with one of the males matching the description of the male with the gun, we immediately took action to stop and detain the 2 males who were compliant and gave an account of what the gun was and where in the house it was.”

” 2 males were the arrested and taken to custody to be interviewed for the above offence, following numerous lines of enquiries it was deemed the male hadn’t left his house with the gun and had no bad intent and was later released with no further action as no offences were committed.”

” We would like to add that any reports we receive will be dealt with accordingly with training that we are given, not knowing of the firearm was real or an imitation we must take immediate action to protect public safety, fortunately on this occasion the gun posed no threat to the wider community”.
