Family Pay Tribute To 17-Year-Old Motorcyclist Who Died In Southampton Collision
The family of a teenage motorcyclist who died following a collision in Southampton have paid tribute to a “brave, funny and deeply loyal young man”.
Emergency services were called just after 1.20am on Saturday 25 April to reports of a collision involving a silver Volkswagen Polo and a black Yamaha YZF motorbike on Northam Bridge.
The rider of the motorcycle, 17-year-old Zain Shaw from Fareham, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
In a tribute, his family said:
“Zain was a brave, funny and deeply loyal young man who brought light and laughter into our lives. He was loved by his family and friends more than words can express. His warmth, kindness and spirit will remain with us always.
“Our hearts are broken but we take comfort in the memories we shared and the joy he gave us in his 17 years. Zain loved riding his motorbike, and we take comfort in knowing he was out doing something he loved.
“We have been overwhelmed by the support and kind messages we’ve received and we are truly grateful for everyone who has reached out. We also want to thank the emergency services for their efforts at the scene and for their compassion and support during this unimaginable time.”
Police say the investigation into the collision remains ongoing.
Two people who were in the Volkswagen Polo — a 17-year-old boy and a 29-year-old man from Southampton — were arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving.
The 17-year-old has since been released from custody and will face no further action in relation to the offence.
The 29-year-old man has been released but remains under investigation while enquiries continue.
Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference 44260192933.
Information can also be submitted online via the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary website.
