Road closures lifted after fatal motorcycle crash in Portsmouth
Road closures on the M275 and surrounding routes have now been lifted following a fatal collision in Portsmouth this morning.
Emergency services were called shortly before 7.30am today, Saturday, May 2, after a serious single-vehicle collision involving a motorcycle on Kettering Terrace, near the M275.
Closures were put in place on the northbound carriageway of the M275 between Church Street Roundabout and junction 2, Rudmore Roundabout, while police, paramedics and fire crews responded to the incident.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that a motorcyclist in his 30s, from Waterlooville, sadly died at the scene.
In an update, police said:
“Following the earlier serious road traffic collision on Kettering Terrace, Portsmouth, and subsequent road closures, we can confirm that all roads have now reopened.
Thank you again for your patience and understanding while we were responding to and dealing with this incident.”
A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service added:
“Southsea and Cosham firefighters were called shortly after 8.30am this morning to assist police colleagues on Kettering Terrace in Portsmouth following a road traffic collision involving one motorcycle.
Crews made the scene safe before returning to station at 9.15am.”
Although the closures have now been lifted, long delays remain across parts of the city due to the earlier disruption, as well as major events taking place in Portsmouth today, including Portsmouth Comic Con and Portsmouth FC’s match against Birmingham City at Fratton Park.
Motorists are being advised to allow extra time for journeys through the city.
