Southampton man handed three year jail sentence following attempt robbery

A 23-year-old man has been jailed for three years and six months after assaulting and attempting to rob another man in an unprovoked attack in Southampton.

Connor Corbin, aged 23, of Anson Drive, approached the victim – a 24-year-old man from Southampton – who was unlocking his motorcycle at around 6.30am on Saturday 7 August 2021.

He struck and kicked the victim numerous times before making threats – suggesting he had a knife – before fleeing the scene.

Corbin, who caused ABH-level injuries to his victim – including to his nose, face and eye – was arrested by police a short while later.

He was charged on 10 August with attempt robbery.

In an un-related matter, he was also charged with causing criminal damage and breaching a restraining order during the same hearing.

Yesterday (Tuesday 16 November), following a trial at Southampton Crown Court, Corbin was handed a prison sentence of three years and six months.

Police Constable, Louis Le Brun of Hampshire Constabulary’s Western Investigation Team, said: “This was an unprovoked and serious assault, which has affected the victim in many ways. My focus throughout this investigation was the victim and ensuring that we brought the person responsible for this attack to justice via the criminal justice system.

“The conviction in court will not erase what has happened, but it will hopefully bring comfort to the victim and give him some closure moving forward.
