Tributes paid to motorcyclist who died in collision

The family of a man killed in a collision in Shalfleet have paid tribute to him following his death

Officers were called at 4.39pm on Thursday, 11 August to reports of a road traffic collision between a tractor and a black Kawasaki motorcycle on the A3054, Shalfleet, near the junction of Elm Lane.

The 51-year-old motorcycle rider, Lance Daish, from Shalfleet, suffered serious injuries and sadly died at the scene.

Paying tribute to him, his family said: “Lance Daish, our beloved husband and father, spoke with actions.

“Often a man of few words, his love and compassion for his family was seen in every crack and callus in his hands formed working to provide a beautiful home, in every meal he’d carefully labour over and every small moment we’d share.

“Lance lived how we all aspire to, keeping those he cherished as close as possible, doing only the things that would bring them and himself comfort and joy.

“He understood and taught us the practice of hard work and sacrifice, the importance of dedication to your loved ones and how to find the little things in life to keep you going.

“When someone asks you to write a tribute to a man who contributed so much to our lives asking so little in return it’s difficult to summarise all he was and could be.

“He was a craftsman, a builder by trade from a young age. Continuing the family business, his working days were spent with family providing beautiful homes for others to treasure.

“At home he could be found in the kitchen or the smoke shack he built in our garden, repeating classic recipes or developing his own to carefully note down in a small leather note pad for his kids to recreate.

“Year round the garden offered Lance a sense of escape from life’s stress with every log thrown in the fire pit, song that would play or drink he shared.

“He was passionate, intelligent and would quickly become adept at anything he set his mind to, including riding his motorcycle.

“When speaking to friends of his within the motorcycle community, few words would be spoken before reaching how calculated and skilful Lance’s riding was.

“He loved the Isle of Man TT, making the pilgrimage when he could. That and his barbecues being his only real indulgences.

“Lance was admired and respected by all who knew him and will live on in every flicker of a barbecue’s flame, every sip of whisky shared, every winding corner you can lean your motorbike into and all the love our family shares.”

Enquiries into the exact circumstances of the collision are ongoing and officers remain keen to speak with anyone who can assist their investigation.
