Two arrested after man found stabbed in street

A man was found bleeding in the street by police moments after he jumped a fence to escape a house where he had reportedly just been stabbed.

Police found the 20-year-old in Hickings Lane, Stapleford, following the alleged attack in nearby Wagtail Close shortly before 2am on Thursday.

He was taken to hospital and treated for several stab wounds. One man is believed to have attacked him with a knife and a second person reportedly hit him over the head with a glass bottle.

His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening or altering.

Two men, aged 20 and 23, have been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Detective Constable Laura Whittington said: “The victim has serious injuries and is currently being treated in hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

“We believe that those involved are known to each other and there is no threat to the wider public.

“Members of the public can expect to see an increased police presence and we may be speaking to them as we carry out our door-to-door enquiries.

“Nottinghamshire Police treats knife crime extremely seriously which is demonstrated by the fact we have two dedicated knife crime teams but we also have a whole raft of measures, working alongside partners, to prevent knife crime too, which has seen offences fall by 15 per cent in the last year.

“We know every knife crime is shocking for the community as it always has potentially serious consequences and I want to reassure the public that we always act swiftly and robustly to reports of knife crime. If you know of anyone who carries a knife, please let us know so we can ensure it doesn’t end up on the streets.
