12 men due in court following disorder after Portsmouth v Southampton derby

Twelve men are due to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court following disorder that broke out after the South Coast derby between Portsmouth and Southampton at Fratton Park on Sunday 25 January.

The charges relate to incidents after the final whistle when some supporters were allegedly involved in disorder, including criminal damage to the stadium. Seats were reportedly ripped from the stands and thrown, along with coins, bottles and pieces of broken seating.

Following a public appeal, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has now issued postal requisitions to 12 men.

Those charged include:
• Two men from Portsmouth, aged 27 and 19 – throwing missiles.
• Two men from Southampton, aged 22 and 19 – throwing missiles.
• A 17-year-old from Chandlers Ford – throwing missiles.
• A 40-year-old from Fareham – throwing missiles.
• Three men from Southampton, aged 31, 40 and 25 – throwing missiles and criminal damage.
• A 24-year-old from Chandlers Ford – throwing missiles and criminal damage.
• A 19-year-old from Locks Heath – throwing missiles and criminal damage.
• A 26-year-old man from Totton – criminal damage.

Police have also renewed their appeal to identify the remaining individuals featured in their original appeal as enquiries continue.
