Five Paddleboarders Rescued After Getting Stuck in Mud at Calshot
Five paddleboarders were rescued from mud at Calshot yesterday afternoon in a multi-agency emergency response.
Firefighters from Hardley and Redbridge were called shortly after 2pm, with support from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service’s water rescue team from Fareham.
HM Coastguard teams from Hillhead and Lymington also assisted, providing safety cover, guidance and support during the rescue.
Firefighters used specialist mud waders and rescue sleds to reach the stranded paddleboarders before safely bringing them back to shore.
The paddleboarders were taken to the RNLI station, where they were assessed by South Central Ambulance Service paramedics. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has reminded people that getting stuck in mud can happen to anyone, especially around coastal areas, but there are steps people can take to stay safe when near mud and water.
Safety advice includes: Avoid walking across mud or unknown coastal ground, check tide times before heading out, carry a phone in a waterproof pouch, and call 999 and ask for the Coastguard if someone is stuck near the coast.
