Two Men Rescued from Mud After Vessel Overturns in Portsmouth
Two men were rescued from mud off Whale Island Way in Portsmouth this afternoon after their vessel overturned.
Firefighters worked alongside HM Coastguard, police and ambulance crews during the multi-agency response.
Crews from Southsea and Cosham, supported by the water rescue team from Fareham, were called at around 4pm following reports that two men were stuck in mud.
Firefighters used specialist wading equipment and rescue sleds to reach the men and bring them safely back to shore.
They were then handed over to paramedics for assessment.
With many people expected to head out fishing or paddleboarding this weekend, emergency services are reminding the public to check tide times and understand the dangers of mud before going near the water.
Safety advice:
If you become stuck in mud, try to stay calm, avoid struggling, spread your weight as much as possible and call 999, asking for the Coastguard.
