Firefighters tackle bungalow roof fire in Newbridge on the Isle of Wight
Firefighters have tackled a fire in Newbridge on the Isle of Wight after flames broke out in the roof space of a building made up of four bungalows.
Crews from Newport, Cowes, Ryde and Shanklin were first called to the scene at around 1.30pm this afternoon.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets to tackle the fire in the roof space, while all occupants were safely out of the properties.
Further crews from Ventnor, East Cowes and Southsea later arrived to support firefighting efforts, along with Sandown’s water carrier vehicle. Additional fire service vehicles also moved across the island to provide resilience while crews remained committed at the incident.
At around 4pm, firefighters were continuing to dampen down hotspots and remove roof tiles to check for fire spread. Ventilation fans were also used to clear smoke from the premises.
One casualty was treated by paramedics for burns to her arm, while another casualty was taken to hospital as a precaution.
By 5.30pm, the fire had been extinguished, with only a few crews remaining on scene.
People were asked to avoid the area while emergency services dealt with the incident.
