Police Foot Chase Ends in Arrests After Reports of Armed Teenagers in Basingstoke
Two teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of going equipped for theft following a police foot pursuit in Basingstoke.
Officers were called at around 9pm on Saturday, 7 June, following reports of individuals wearing balaclavas and carrying bolt cutters while attempting to gain access to bike sheds on Houndmills Road.
Police quickly attended the area and located two suspects, who attempted to flee on foot. Following a short pursuit, both teenagers were detained by officers.
During searches of the area, bolt croppers were recovered nearby. Officers also discovered a lock knife and a pair of rubber gloves in the pocket of one of the teenagers, while the second teenager was found to be in possession of cannabis.
A 16-year-old boy from Basingstoke was arrested on suspicion of going equipped for theft and possession of a Class B controlled drug.
A 14-year-old boy from Basingstoke was arrested on suspicion of going equipped for theft and possession of a knife blade or sharp pointed article in a public place.
Both teenagers have since been released on bail with conditions while further enquiries are carried out.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary is continuing its investigation and is appealing for anyone with information relating to the incident to come forward.
