Derelict Building severely Damaged After Fire On Privett Road In Gosport

Firefighters were called to a fire at a derelict building on Privett Road in Gosport on Wednesday evening after smoke was seen in the area.
Crews from Gosport and Portchester attended the scene, supported by an Aerial Ladder Platform, after the initial 999 call was received at around 8pm.
Residents nearby were advised to keep doors and windows closed due to smoke, while motorists were urged to take extra care as visibility on local roads may have been affected.
As the incident developed, firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used multiple hose reel jets to tackle the blaze. A large emergency service presence remained in the area, with road closures put in place on Privett Road, Privett Place and Daniels Place.
By around 10.30pm, the fire had been extinguished, although firefighters remained at the scene damping down. The roof of the building collapsed during the incident, but fortunately no injuries were reported.
A stop message was received at around 4.30am on Thursday morning. Crews continued to return to the site throughout the night to carry out re-inspections and deal with signs of hot spots and embers.
A crew from Gosport returned again later on Thursday morning to conduct a further inspection of the property. No hotspots were identified.
Due to the extent of the structural damage sustained by the building, it has not been possible to determine the cause of the fire at this time. :::
