Firefighters Rescue Donkey Stuck in Mud Near Liss
Firefighters came to the rescue of a 20-year-old donkey named Chocolate after she became trapped in deep mud near Liss yesterday afternoon.
The incident was reported shortly after 5pm, prompting the attendance of on-call crews from Petersfield alongside specialist animal rescue firefighters from Lyndhurst and Winchester.
Chocolate had become stuck up to her belly in thick mud, leaving her unable to free herself. Despite the blistering heat, firefighters worked carefully to keep the donkey cool while digging away the mud and safely releasing her.
A veterinarian assessed Chocolate at the scene before she was escorted back to her enclosure, where she was happily reunited with her companions.
The rescue operation concluded shortly after 7pm, with firefighters joking that the incident served as “a useful reminder not to leave chocolate out in the sun.”
Thankfully, Chocolate was uninjured and is recovering well after her muddy adventure.
