Firefighters tackle major roof fire in Cowes as blaze spreads to neighbouring homes

Around 30 firefighters have been tackling a significant property fire in Ronsons Close, Cowes, after the alarm was raised shortly before 3:30am this morning.

Crews from Newport, Cowes, Ryde, Sandown and Freshwater, supported by an Aerial Ladder Platform, were dispatched to the scene.

An update issued at 7:15am confirmed the fire, which started in the roof of the property, had spread to neighbouring homes. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus surrounded the blaze using multiple hose reel jets before moving into the damping down phase.

Large amounts of smoke have affected the area, with motorists urged to drive carefully as visibility may be reduced. Residents living nearby have also been advised to keep doors and windows closed while crews continue their work.

The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed.

There are no reports of any injuries at this stage.

Anyone travelling through the area is advised to avoid Ronsons Close while the emergency services remain in attendance.
