Serious Collision Causes Major Delays on Eastern Road as SailGP Traffic Adds to Congestion

Motorists are being warned to expect significant delays after a serious collision involving a motorcycle forced the closure of Eastern Road southbound into Portsmouth.

The incident occurred between Fitzherbert Road and the A27, with emergency services currently at the scene. Traffic is heavily congested on the approach to Portsmouth, with delays being made even worse with more people visiting the city for the SailGP event.

The injuries sustained are believed to be serious, although no further information has been released at this time.

The road is expected to remain closed for a considerable time while emergency services deal with the incident and officers carry out a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.

Drivers are urged to avoid the area where possible and seek alternative routes into the city. Anyone travelling to SailGP or other events in Southsea should allow plenty of extra time for their journey.
