At 9.56pm on Wednesday, 2 March, a man in his 50s was crossing Civic Centre Road at the junction with Havelock Road with a group of people after attending a FA Cup match between Southampton F.C. and West Ham United F.C.

A black Skoda collided with the man and did not stop, driving off in the direction of Cumberland Place.

The victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

A 29-year-old Southampton man was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent and was released under investigation while enquiries continue.

DS Christian Reid-Milligan from Western Investigations said: “We are still asking for witnesses to this collision so please contact us if you have any recollection of what happened.

“Did you attend this football match and see the collision afterwards on your way home? Did you film it on your phone?

“If you have CCTV, dash cam or ring doorbell footage showing the incident we would also like to hear from you.

“Any evidence, no matter how small you think it may be, could greatly help our investigation.”
