Police and the RSPCA are investigating after a woman was allegedly filmed kicking a dog in broad daylight on a Portsmouth street, sparking outrage among local residents.

The incident reportedly took place at around 2pm on Sunday (7 June) outside the Premier convenience store at the junction of New Road and Carnarvon Road in Fratton.

Witnesses claim the woman was seen repeatedly kicking the dog while shouting at it, with several members of the public stepping in to challenge her behaviour.

One local resident told reporters that people in the area were “sick of seeing” the dog being treated in such a manner and wanted authorities to take action.

The incident quickly gained attention on social media after a witness described seeing a woman “savagely kick her dog numerous times” while also allegedly leaving a young child standing in the road nearby.

According to the witness, members of the public confronted the woman about her actions, but she allegedly continued to verbally berate the animal.

The footage has generated widespread condemnation online, with many expressing concern for the dog’s welfare.

One commenter said: “The poor dog looks terrified and is cowering down. If this is what happens in public, I dread to think what happens behind closed doors.”

Another wrote: “The dog looks frightened and defensive. It’s heartbreaking to watch.”

A third added: “No animal deserves to be treated like that. It’s completely unacceptable.”

A spokesperson for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary confirmed officers are investigating the matter.

They said: “We received a report at 5.45pm on Sunday, 7 June, regarding a public order incident that occurred at approximately 2pm involving a woman kicking a dog at the junction of Carnarvon Road and New Road in Portsmouth.

“We are aware of a video circulating on social media relating to this incident and have since received several additional reports.

“Enquiries are ongoing and no arrests have been made at this time.”

The RSPCA has also launched an investigation and is appealing for witnesses to come forward.

An RSPCA spokesperson said: “We’re appealing for eyewitnesses and anyone with information that could assist our investigation to contact the RSPCA Inspectorate Appeal Line on 0300 123 8018, quoting reference number 01823194.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant footage is urged to contact the police or the RSPCA.
