Drug Dealer Jailed After Police Seize £143,000 Cash and 600g of Cocaine in Portsmouth

A drug dealer has been jailed for three years and nine months after police uncovered a significant quantity of cocaine and more than £143,000 in cash during an investigation in Portsmouth.

On 13 January this year, officers witnessed 26-year-old Bledar Canaj carrying out a suspected drug deal in Arundel Street before getting into a taxi.

The vehicle was stopped by police, who searched Canaj and found two bags of cocaine, two bags of cannabis and a quantity of cash.

Officers later searched his flat in Pains Road, where they discovered approximately £2,500 in cash and a small amount of cannabis.

While officers were at the property, 34-year-old Alex Xhediku arrived and was subsequently arrested.

Analysis of messages found on Xhediku’s mobile phone indicated his involvement in drug supply, leading officers to search his address on Posbrooke Road.

During the search, police located a carrier bag containing £50,000 in cash on a kitchen worktop. Further searches of the loft uncovered two additional carrier bags, one containing £93,040 in cash and another containing around 600 grams of cocaine.

Both men were charged with possession of cannabis with intent to supply, possession of cocaine with intent to supply, and possession of criminal property.

The pair admitted the offences, and on 29 May Xhediku was sentenced to 45 months’ imprisonment at Portsmouth Crown Court.

Canaj failed to attend the sentencing hearing while on court bail and will be sentenced at a later date.

The officer leading the investigation said police remain committed to disrupting the supply of illegal drugs across Portsmouth.

They added that the investigation, carried out jointly by the Portsmouth Priority Crime Team and CID, had removed a substantial quantity of drugs and criminal cash from the streets.

Police are continuing to encourage anyone with information about drug dealing in their community to come forward, helping officers build intelligence and target those responsible for supplying illegal drugs and exploiting vulnerable people.
