Man Jailed for 26 Years After Whiteley Workplace Stabbing

A man has been jailed for 26 years after carrying out a brutal knife attack on his former partner at her workplace in Whiteley.

Anwar Ashraf, 39, of no fixed abode, was sentenced at Winchester Crown Court on 5 June after being found guilty of attempted murder following a trial in March.

The court heard that on 30 April 2025, the victim, a woman in her 40s, was working in Whiteley when she was informed that Ashraf was outside the building. After briefly speaking with him and returning inside, she attempted to prevent him from following her into the premises.

Ashraf then launched a frenzied attack, producing a knife and stabbing her 17 times. The victim suffered wounds to her chest, back, stomach and foot, along with defensive injuries to her arms as she tried to protect herself.

Members of the public intervened during the attack, confronting and detaining Ashraf until police arrived. They disarmed him and kicked the knife away, while others provided urgent first aid to the seriously injured victim.

Despite the severity of her injuries, the victim survived and has since made what police described as a remarkable recovery.
As part of his sentence, Ashraf will serve an additional five years on licence after his custodial term and will not be eligible for parole for at least 17 years.

Detective Chief Inspector Alex Spratt praised the victim’s courage and the actions of members of the public who stepped in to save her life.

Police also reiterated that domestic abuse will not be tolerated and encouraged victims to come forward and report incidents, assuring the public that offenders who commit such acts of violence will be pursued and brought to justice.

Anyone experiencing domestic abuse can contact police on 101, report online, or dial 999 in an emergency.
