This is the moment two people attacked another man during a vicious robbery in the middle of the city centre

Reece Fraser, 23, and Jean-Pierre Wilson, 20, were pictured on CCTV throwing punches at their victim and dragging him to the ground before stealing his phone and bank card.

Fraser and Wilson have been locked up for a combined six years and nine months for the robbery after being filmed kicking a man 11 times – to the stomach, back and then the face – during the sustained attack.

The 26-year-old victim had his phone, bank card and cash taken during the robbery in the Old Market Square, Nottingham, but only suffered minor injuries and managed to call 999 and tell the operator “I need police, I’m being robbed” before the phone was pulled from his grasp.

Fraser and Wilson, both of no fixed address, then calmly walked off and hid in a gazebo in Trinity Square, in the city centre, shortly after the attack in the early hours of 6 July 2021.

What they didn’t realise is that diligent CCTV operators had tracked their movements following the attack and were able to inform officers of their exact location.

Minutes later, two officers on foot, a police dog and handler and officers in a patrol car swooped on the location and quickly got them in handcuffs and arrested them on suspicion of robbery.

The dramatic arrest came after the duo had earlier punched the man and chased him around the square, as part of two separate attempts to steal his phone.

They can then be seen on CCTV assaulting the man and dragging him onto the tram tracks in the Old Market Square, with Fraser kicking him repeatedly as he laid on the ground while Wilson snatched his belongings.

Appearing before Nottingham Crown Court on Wednesday 2 February, Fraser was jailed for two years and 10 months for robbery, while Wilson was sentenced to a total of three years and 11 months in a young offenders’ institution for the robbery and other former offences, including dangerous driving, using a car without insurance and breaching a community order.

Detective Constable Richard Evans, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We are extremely pleased to have been able to secure two convictions in this case, following this completely unacceptable attack in the middle of the city centre.

“As a Force, we will always respond swiftly to serious incidents involving violence, such as robbery, so I would like to commend our officers for acting on intelligence and locating both of the offenders within the space of an hour.

“The CCTV footage clearly shows Fraser and Wilson assaulting the man and stealing his phone during a sustained attack that saw him kicked multiple times, but thankfully didn’t result in the victim sustaining serious injuries.

“This type of behaviour is completely unacceptable and will be met with robust police action and severe punishments in the courts, which we hope is emphasised by the sentences handed out in this case.”

Cllr Neghat Khan, Nottingham City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhoods, Safety and Inclusion, added: “CCTV can play a crucial part in detecting crimes and bringing offenders to justice, as this case shows.

“Our operatives are dedicated to keeping Nottingham safe and we will continue to deploy CCTV in close collaboration with the police where it can make a difference in preventing, deterring or detecting crime.

“We’re pleased that it’s recently been announced that more CCTV cameras can be deployed into our communities.

“This should give residents reassurance and criminals a reason to think twice before offending.
