Firefighters are tackling a large property fire in Alverstone Garden Village, Isle of Wight

4 appliances are on scene at Woodside Avenue, where a fire started in an outbuilding and has since spread to the roofspace.

Firefighters are attempting to contain and extinguish the blaze using main jets and breathing apparatus.

Firefighters from Southsea,  Portsmouth have been mobilised to the island as a safety precaution and are currently on standby at Ryde.

The occupants of the property are believed to have escaped from the property and are being cared for by nearby neighbours.
