The collision occurred at around 8.05 pm at the junction of Eastern Avenue and Eastern Road, Portsmouth
Two fire crews from Southsea and two from Cosham were dispatched after reports that the driver from one of the vehicles was trapped.
Paramedics from South Central Ambulance Service and specialist doctors from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance critical care team, gave life saving treatment to the male who was trapped.
Firefighters worked alongside paramedics using specialist cutting equipment to remove the roof of the vehicle, fire crews later extracted the injured male on a spinal board and handed him over to awaiting paramedics.
Police officers from Hampshire Constabulary’s Road Policing Unit were also in attendance, who placed a road closure on two lanes of the Southbound carriageway and one lane of the Northbound Carriageway.
Motorists faced delays of up to 10 minutes after traffic nearby Langstone road become congested after traffic was diverted down to Milton Road.
Hampshire Constabulary have been approached for comment.
