Live Facial Recognition Vans To Be Deployed In Portsmouth Next Week
Police have confirmed that Live Facial Recognition vans will be deployed in Portsmouth on Wednesday 27 May as part of efforts to target offenders and keep communities safe.
The specialist team will be working alongside local officers to help identify suspects wanted in connection with high-risk and priority offences.
The technology may also be used to help locate high-risk missing people, with police saying the aim is to get more offenders off the streets, support victims and protect the public.
Live Facial Recognition uses cameras to scan faces in a specific area and compare them against a watchlist of people wanted by police or linked to serious matters.
Officers say the deployment is targeted and intelligence-led.
Police have said anyone wanting to find out more about how the technology works can visit their dedicated information page.
