Man arrested after string of alleged robberies in Romsey town centre

A man has been arrested after a series of alleged robberies at businesses in Romsey town centre on Sunday evening.

Police were called following reports of three linked incidents that took place within minutes of each other from around 5.20pm on Sunday 21 June.

The first incident was reported at the Co-op in The Hundred, where a man allegedly threatened a member of staff with a weapon before stealing cash from the till.

Moments later, a man is reported to have entered The Phoenix pub, also in The Hundred, where he allegedly threatened a man before leaving the premises.

Shortly afterwards, staff at The Exchange in Market Place reported that a man had entered the venue and demanded money.

Officers arrived in the town centre at 5.28pm and arrested a man inside The Cocky Anchor pub in Market Place. During a search, officers recovered and seized a folding garden saw.

A 41-year-old man from Southampton was arrested on suspicion of robbery and remains in police custody while enquiries continue.

Thankfully, no serious injuries have been reported as a result of the incidents, which police are treating as linked.

Detectives have already spoken to a number of witnesses but are continuing to appeal for anyone who saw what happened, or who has any information, to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference 44260294107.
