Man jailed after gun and ammunition found in Southampton storage container
A man has been jailed for five and a half years after a firearm and ammunition were discovered inside a storage container in Southampton.
Police were contacted in February 2023 after staff at a storage company found a black 9mm Beretta pistol and a separate magazine filled with ammunition while clearing out a unit.
The container had been rented by James Robinson, 47, of Telegraph Road, Andover, who had failed to keep up with payments for the unit.
Forensic work later found Robinson’s DNA on the trigger and trigger guard of the weapon.
Robinson was arrested and charged in April 2024 with possession of a firearm and possession of prohibited ammunition.
He denied the offences, but following a trial on 16 June, a jury found him guilty on both counts.
He was sentenced the same day to five and a half years in prison.
