A 39-year-old man has been sentenced to 14 weeks in jail after admitting to shoplifting goods worth more than £550 from several stores in Aldershot.
Ryan Gibbs, of no fixed address, stole a variety of items, including paint, shoes, and fragrance bottles, valued at £579.
The thefts occurred between 2 September and 9 September from three local retailers: The Range, New Look, and Boots.Gibbs appeared before Basingstoke Magistrates Court on 17 September, where he pleaded guilty to four counts of theft from a shop.
In addition to the theft charges, Gibbs also admitted to two counts of possessing Class A drugs. As a result, he was handed a 14-week prison sentence.
Police Sergeant Rob Tiller, from the Aldershot Neighbourhood Policing Team, highlighted the impact of Gibbs’ actions on local businesses.
“Ryan Gibbs stole more than £550 worth of items from shops in Aldershot,” he said. “His actions have had a huge impact on businesses in our area, and I hope this result makes it clear that this behaviour will not be tolerated.
“Gibbs’ sentencing serves as a warning to those engaging in criminal activity in the Aldershot area, as local police continue to crack down on theft and drug-related offences.
