Police witness appeal after man is assaulted in Basingstoke

Police are appealing for witnesses and information after a man was assaulted in Basingstoke

 

At around 9pm on Friday 22 April, a man in his 20s was attacked by an unknown man in the A339 underpass between Abbey Road and Upper Sherborne Road.

 

The victim was approached from behind and punched in the face. The punch caused him to fall to the ground.

 

He got up, but was assaulted again. The suspect – who is described as being aged around 19 years old – then threatened the victim with a knife.

 

The victim was able to run away from the offender before flagging down a member of the public for help.

 

He suffered a fractured eye socket and fractured cheek bone and was taken to Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital. He has now left hospital.

 

The suspect is described as being mixed race, 5ft 7ins tall and with dark coloured eyes. He has brown hair that is short at the back and side.

 

He has an earring in his right ear and has facial hair. He was wearing a black jumper with a red Nike tick on it and black tracksuit bottoms.

 

Officers have been making enquiries but are now asking the public for help.
